Finishing What God Has Started

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Galatians 6:9

The past few weeks have been exciting weeks.  We have watched as years of prayer, sacrifice, and hope have been fulfilled right in front of us.  A few years ago we were praying that God would provide a way for a new building because we realized that we were growing out of our first building.  So, we began to pray, sacrifice, and hope, that God would bless us with a new building.  And, God has blessed us…He has blessed us better than we hoped for!

Now after weeks of labor we are tired and weary.  And possibly we are looking toward the finish line.  God’s Word gives a few pointers on how we can survive and flourish during these exhausting and exciting times.  First, let us keep doing good work!  We can’t finish before we finish.  So, until the end comes, we need to simply keep doing good work.  This will require patience and perseverance on our parts.  However, we know that God provides everything we need at exactly the right moment.

Second, let us do right by one another.  God’s word offers the extra admonition in this passage that we ought to especially work hard to be a blessing to those in our own Christian family.  This is a time of stress and joy.  And, some in their excitement or fatigue may be tempted to relax in relating to their Christian brothers and sisters.  But, let us be reminded that this building project will soon be over and a pleasant memory.  However, our relationships with our fellow Christians will last a life time.

It would be a sad thing to look back on these days and realize that we did less by God and by one another than we should have.  Instead, let us continue to press on toward the goal with energy, joy, and enthusiasm.  And, let us also press forward toward God’s great prize with the firm desire to do so with love and forbearance for my brothers and sisters in Christ.  Therefore, together we will finish what God has started.

Blessings,

Kevin
